Bella Has A New Home

The princess has a new home. "Princess," because if she was human this is exactly what she would be. Little miss prim and proper strutting gracefully in her domain. Elegant. Dignified. Commanding a regal presence.

But when we first met, despite her being petite, frisky and delightfully cute I wasn't charmed. "No," I said to my wife Loraine, "We can't take her home. We're too busy. And she'd only be a nuisance." But my pleas were unheeded.

Bella came home.

Impressions can change. And when she started zigging, zagging and zooming from room to room, they did. Initial amusement morphed into enchantment, then infatuation and she became a precocious playmate. Hopelessly hooked,  I suggested a new name, "Zoom Zoom."

Her elegancy had not yet surfaced and because of her fleet-footed capers I deemed this appropriate. But this time it was Loraine who said no. Undaunted I proposed a compromise. "Zoom Bella Zoom." But no, again. Sounded too much like a stripper.

Time passed and a few years later we were moving to a home where pets were not allowed. To find one for Bella prospects from Kijiji were considered. Jim, a big guy who nearly had to stoop under our doorway, was the choice. Touched by his gentleness we knew she would be cared for.  In the following months he sent email updates sharing how well she adjusted. Still strutting and still regal she conquered her new domain.

Then after four years a new one came. Jim's son married a woman allergic to cats. Once again needed to move and he asked if we could take her back. Saddened because we couldn't, but challenged, Loraine again conducted her Kijiji magic. And just today as I was writing this blog she conveyed the good news. An elderly lady living alone agreed to adopt her.

Bella now has a new domain where she can strut her royalty.

But ask the animals and they will teach you,
or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you;
or speak to the earth, and it will teach you,
or let the fish in the sea inform you.
Which of these does not know
that the hand of the Lord has done this?
In his hand is the life of every creature
and the breath of all mankind.
Job 12:7-10
